Diving support vessel (DSV) provider, Seamec Ltd. has chosen Sonardyne acoustic position reference technology to support its dynamic positioning operations. The company has upgraded the Ranger 1 system installed on the SEAMEC Princess to Sonardyne’s current generation ultra-short baseline (USBL) platform, Ranger 2 Pro.
Maintaining constant vessel position during subsea operations is critical for the SEAMEC Princess. Seamec specified the Ranger 2 Pro for its ability to operate with a network of transponders deployed on the seabed that offer positioning redundancy in all operating conditions. Ranger 2 builds on the functionality of Sonardyne’s original Ranger system adding support for sixth generation (6G) acoustic instruments and wideband 2 signal architecture.
“The nature of the work carried out by the vessel demands that our DP system is continuously fed with good-quality position reference data. By opting for Ranger 2 in Pro configuration, we’ll be able to meet this requirement.” said K.T. Thomas, General Manager-Designate for Seamec Ltd.
