The Random Girl Who Stood by Me

At my fiancée’s company celebration party, everyone was cheering.

Seraphine smiled and kissed her male colleague, Darian, for three seconds.

Everyone stared at me without blinking.

At that moment, I became the clown of the party.

Darian licked his lips as if he wasn’t done. His eyes looked at me with a hint of challenge.

Then…

He pointed at the ten-carat diamond ring I gave to Seraphine and mocked, “You gave this fake diamond to Ms. Vale? Even a dog would probably refuse it.”

The private room erupted in laughter.

Seraphine said calmly, “Cade, stick to what’s within your means. Don’t bring rings like this to me in the future.”

At that moment, a cheerful young girl passed by the door of the private room and I gave the big diamond ring to her.

“Are you really giving it to me? You’re so powerful! Can I give you a kiss?”

——

I never expected the cheerful girl to be so enthusiastic.

She didn’t care whether the diamond was real or fake. Her face was full of a happy smile.

Then she planted a big kiss on my cheek.

I was stunned for a moment.

“Does it look good on me?” She linked her arm with mine and lifted the hand wearing the ring to show me.

“You don’t suspect it’s fake?” I asked, a bit puzzled.

“I don’t care if it’s real or not,” she said. “It’s fine as long as it looks good. Look how it sparkles.”

Her words touched something in my heart.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Seraphine’s face darken.

Thinking of how she and Darian had deliberately tried to embarrass me, I asked the cheerful girl, “Do you have a boyfriend?”

“No, I’m single.”

“What do you think of me?”

She looked me up and down. “A bit older… But you’re pretty handsome.”

“How about I be your boyfriend?”

“Sure!” She agreed without hesitation, then lifted her head and gently pecked me on the lips.

Seraphine suddenly smashed her wine glass on the floor in anger.

The cheerful girl was startled.

I put my arm around her shoulders and said, “It’s okay, don’t be afraid.”

She nodded. “As long as you’re here, I’m not afraid.”

Seraphine’s face was as dark as the bottom of a pot. “Cade, what do you mean by this? Don’t forget—I’m your fiancée! Are you trying to embarrass me in front of everyone on purpose?”

I glanced at her and shrugged. “You can kiss your good buddy, but I can’t kiss someone else?”

Seraphine let out a cold snort. “Darian worked day and night to win that project. He’s the biggest contributor to this celebration.”

When I heard that, I smiled. “So just because he won the project, you have to kiss him? Then what if he wins an even bigger project in the future? Are you going to sleep with him too?”

The moment I said this, Seraphine trembled with anger.

All the employees in the company widened their eyes at me.

No one expected that I, who had always obeyed Seraphine without question, would dare to say something like this in public today.

At that moment, Darian stepped forward and shouted at me angrily, “Cade, who do you think Ms. Vale is? I’m giving you one chance. Apologize to her immediately! Otherwise, don’t blame me for being harsh with you!”

I glanced at Darian and gave a cold smile. “What are you even? You’re nothing but a lapdog, wagging your tail and begging behind her.”

“Do you really think you’re some kind of prize on a plate?”

Darian froze for a moment. Then his face turned bright red.

In Seraphine’s company, his status was second only to hers. For me to call him a lapdog in public was the same as stepping on him and humiliating him.

As a man, especially in front of the woman he cared about, how could he possibly swallow that insult?

I saw him snatch a beer bottle from the table. With a vicious look on his face, he started walking toward me.

I was about to move the cheerful girl behind me. After all, this was between Darian and me. She was innocent and I didn’t want her to get hurt by accident.

But before I could do anything, the cheerful girl suddenly stepped forward and blocked me with her body.

“Hey! What do you think you’re doing? If you dare to hit my boyfriend, I’ll call a bunch of my buddies to deal with you!”

I stared blankly at the girl standing protectively in front of me. After all, when I said I’d be her boyfriend…

There was some spite to it.

But I didn’t expect her to be so brave. She showed no fear facing danger. Wasn’t that a lot better than Seraphine, who made me look like a clown?

Darian stopped.

He stared at me with cold eyes and gritted his teeth, “Cade, if you’re a man then step out and fight me one-on-one. What kind of man hides behind a little girl?”

I moved my mouth to say something.

The cheerful girl took another step forward and shouted at Darian, “If you want to hit my boyfriend, you’ll have to step over me first!”

After a moment, the cheerful girl turned and smiled at me. “Don’t be afraid. I’ll protect you. He won’t dare to hit you!”

I looked at her — for the first time I felt like someone was protecting me.

Then I smiled and nodded, “Okay, I’m counting on you.”

Everyone in the private room stared at me in shock. They really had never seen me act so shameless — a grown man actually needed a little girl to protect him.

Darian squinted but ignored the cheerful girl. He sneered at me and said, “Cade, can you stop being such a coward?”

“How dare you insult my boyfriend! Just you wait!” The cheerful girl glared at Darian fiercely.

Then she took her phone out of her small bag and made a call. She said someone was about to hit me and even gave the private room number.

In less than half a minute, seven or eight energetic young men appeared in the hallway. Each one was tattooed, wearing skinny pants and sneakers.

“Elara, who’s trying to hit you?” The leader asked with a dark face.

“Him!” The cheerful girl pointed at Darian. Then she turned to me, “Let’s go!”

In a flash, the group of energetic young men rushed forward without asking questions.

Darian was immediately pinned to the ground and beaten badly.

“Enough!” Seraphine shouted angrily.

But the energetic young men didn’t listen to her at all.

“Cade, tell them to stop! If anything happens to Darian, none of you will get away!”

I was also worried that these young men might be too rough, so I had the cheerful girl tell them to stop.

Seraphine helped the bruised and battered Darian to his feet.

Darian shouted at me, “Damn, you’re looking for trouble, huh? Just you wait!”

He was about to call for backup, but Seraphine stopped him.

“Let them leave. I have something to say to you,” she said coldly.

After the young men left…

Seraphine’s gaze fell on the cheerful girl. “You’re leaving too.”

“I’m not leaving. Wherever my boyfriend is, that’s where I’ll be.” The cheerful girl hugged my arm tightly.

“He’s my fiancé,” Seraphine said coldly. “What happens between us is none of your business, as an outsider.”

The cheerful girl turned to me. “Do you want me to leave?”

“No need to leave,” I said with a slight smile.

Then she looked back at Seraphine, stuck out her tongue and mocked, “Old woman, did you hear that? My boyfriend doesn’t want me to leave.”

Seraphine froze at the way the cheerful girl addressed her.

Her face went dark in an instant. “Damn! Who are you calling an old woman? You wanna see if I’ll tear your mouth apart?”

Darian glared at the cheerful girl with a vicious look.

The cheerful girl stared right back without any fear. “You wanna feel what it’s like to get beaten up again?”

“You—” Darian got so angry that he almost coughed up blood on the spot.

Seeing him shut down, I snorted out a laugh. This cheerful girl really was wild and defiant.

Seraphine said coldly, “Cade, don’t blame me for not warning you — If you insist on getting mixed up with this small, low-class girl… then I’ll just call off the engagement with you!”

“Old woman, who are you calling small? You wanna compare?” The feisty young girl never let anyone push her around. The moment she heard Seraphine insult her, she fired back immediately— even puffing out her chest on purpose.

The crowd’s eyes were sharp as snow. If it came down to size — though the girl was younger, she was clearly better developed and had the upper hand.

That made Seraphine feel deeply humiliated. Her mouth twitched and her eyes turned icy cold. She forced herself to suppress her anger and not argue with the girl.

“I’ll give you only one chance. Get her out of here and apologize to me. Or I’ll never forgive you!”

The employees in the company, including Darian and even Seraphine herself, all thought I would eventually give in and apologize. After all, no matter how much trouble there was, would a man really be willing to let go?

Before I could speak, Darian, trying to provoke me, pointed at the cheerful girl and shouted, “Make her get lost as far as she can, then kneel and apologize to Ms. Vale!”

Seraphine frowned slightly. She only wanted me to apologize, not to kneel.

But since Darian had already said it, Seraphine could only stay silent and let it stand.

The cheerful girl looked at me. “Do you want me to leave?”

I shook my head. “No need.”

“Cade!” Seraphine gritted her teeth. “So you really want to break off the engagement?”

“I’ll make it easy for you,” I said. “From this moment on, you’re no longer my fiancée.”

Seraphine stared at me in disbelief. She never imagined she would actually lose to some cheerful girl who had just shown up out of nowhere.

“A girl like her is so cheap and tasteless. She throws herself at any man who’ll have her. Do you even know how filthy she is? You’d really break off our engagement… for a woman like that? Have you really thought this through?” Seraphine frowned deeply, her voice icy.

“Before you call someone else dirty, you should ask yourself how clean you are.” I glanced at her and Darian.

“Cade, you’ll regret this! Even if you come begging me later, it’ll be useless!”

Seraphine’s voice turned ice cold. I just gave a calm smile and ignored her. Then, in front of everyone, I made a call.

“This is Cade. From now on. Cancel all cooperation with the Vale Group. I want Vale Group to go bankrupt!”
