There are different ways to obtain assistance in payment for nursing home care, here are some options:
  • MEDICAID- Available to low income individuals who require 24hr nursing care in a facility. Eligibility requirements vary from state to state.
  • MEDICARE- Available to almost everyone receiving social security and any one age 65 and up. Also available to the disabled regardless of age.
  • Long Term Care Insurance- there various companies who offer this insurance and will pay for nursing home care.
  • Veterans Benefits- available to all veterans through the department of veterans' affairs.

Yes, nursing homes in the state of Oklahoma can not admit any one without a physicians order. This usually requires the primary caregiver or family members working with the doctor to determine if the patient requires nursing home care.
Skilled Nursing Care is 24 hour specialized nursing care that requires a Doctors order and includes rehabilitative services such as Physical, Occupational, Speech and IV therapy. These services must be administered by licensed professionals and require certain conditions be met before admission as a skilled patient, which include:
  • Dr's order
  • Hospitalization of 3 or more consecutive days
  • Admitted within 14 days of discharge from hospital (leeway of 30 days)
  • Admitted because treatment of original cause of hospitalization is required
For those residents who require skilled nursing care Medicare part A will pay for all nursing care, semi private room, all meals, physical, occupational and speech therapy. Medicare will pay for the first 20 days of care. For the days 21 through 100 Medicare will help pay for care except for the daily co-insurance rate. Medicare part A will only pay for up to 100 days in each benefit period, if the resident meets all requirements for skilled services.
Personal items are actually encouraged in decorating your loved ones room to make it feel as home like and comfortable as possible for them. Personal furniture and approved electronics are also allowed.
