The offshore division of mooring rope specialist Lankhorst Ropes is unveiling a new ultra-low creep, high modulus polyethylene (HMPE) mooring rope for 2000m-plus water depths at OTC 2012 in Houston.
Based on the Lankhorst Gama 98 rope construction, the HMPE rope made with Dyneema has been engineered to meet the mechanical demands of 30-year deepwater moorings. ‘Beyond 2000m, platforms moored with polyester lines can experience high horizontal offsets which may exceed the limits of risers,’ said Chris Johnson, sales director, Lankhorst Ropes ƶijϻ Division. ‘The new HMPE rope’s ultra-low creep, and higher stiffness, will provide the optimum station-keeping conditions for permanent moorings at ultra-deepwater depths.’
An OTC paper on the new mooring rope, co-authored by Lankhorst, DSM Dyneema and Ifremer, is due for presentation on 3 May.
