Lundin Petroleum has made an oil discovery on the Ghohta prospect in exploration licence PL492 in the Barents Sea.
The well, 7120/1-3, 35km north west of the Snøhvit field, found a 75m oil column beneath a 25m gas/condensate cap in dolomitized and karstified carbonate in a Permian target.
The well, drilled in 342m water depth using the semisubmersible drilling rig Transocean Arctic, has been cored, logged and sampled. A drill stem test will now be carried out to establish the flow properties of the discovery.
The well also encountered sandstone in a Triassic target, but the reservoir was water filled.
Lundin Norway is operator of PL492, with 40% interest. The partners are Det norske oljeselskap, with 40%, and the Norwegian Energy Company, with 20%.
