Petrobras announced today that it has confirmed the Sagitario well discovery (formally 1-SPS-98 / 1-BRSA-1063 -SPS) initially announced 25 February 2013 while in the drilling phase.
Located in the ultra-deepwater presalt area of the Santos basin, the Brazilian national said results confirmed the existence of “good quality” oil (32° API) at a water depth of 1871m. The reservoirs were also found to be of good permeability, with 159m of presalt reservoirs.
Located 194km southeast of Sao Paolo, Sagitario was drilled by Petrobras to more than 7100m and is the first well in Block BM-S-50. Petrobras originally set the target date to 6950m when the discovery was announced.
The company must complete exploration activities related to BM-S-50 and file to declare Sagitario commercial by 2017. Petrobras said it would continue with its Evaluation Plan of Discovery approved by Brazil’s National Petroleum Agency, Natural Gas and Biofuels.
In April, Petrobras announced a new production record of 444,000bo/d in the Santos and Campos basins presalt area.
Block BM-S-50 is operated by Petrobras (60%), its partners in the well are BG E& P Brazil (20%) and Repsol Sinopec Brazil (20%).
