Osbit supplies cable system to Technip

North-England based Osbit Power (OP) has supplied a bespoke cable handling system to Technip ƶijϻ Wind, to support Technip's cable installation operations at Dong Energy’s Westermost Rough offshore wind farm.

Osbit says the modular quadrant system allows safe and efficient deployment and pull-in of infield cables, managing touch down on the seabed and protecting the product as it is pulled into position at the turbine foundation.

Installed on the support vessel, the system has been supporting operations since early June, following mobilization of the deck spread at A&P Tyne.

OP’s spread includes cable highways, cable protection quadrant, quadrant trackways, overboarding chute, quadrant handling winch and control unit.

The system incorporates a number of safety features such as hydraulic locking of the quadrant at predefined positions, to ensure protection of personnel when the system is under tension during operations.

Close cooperation between OP Engineers and Technip’s team was essential as Technip worked towards a challenging mobilization schedule.

OP’s Managing Director Tony Trap said: “This is another milestone project for Osbit Power. We have expanded our activities significantly over the past 12 months with a series of contracts delivering a range of back deck and subsea equipment to leading offshore installation contractors. This first contract for a cable deployment system, successfully delivered against very challenging schedule constraints, again demonstrates the strength of the OP team and its ability to cooperatively supply customised equipment spreads in short lead times. We are delighted to have played our part in supporting the installation of infield cables in this important project for Technip ƶijϻ Wind and Dong Energy.”
