DTU said that it wants to train engineers to increase oil and gas extraction in the North Sea to contribute to the Danish economy and to help the country work towards energy self-sufficiency.
The petroleum research facility aims to attract international and domestic researchers to build partnerships with other research institutions and with the oil and gas industry.
Additionally, the center says it will support existing Danish research areas and study programs in oil and gas technology, by supplying additional research and new areas of specialization in reservoir characterization; enhanced oil and gas recovery; drilling and production technology, and production facilities and material technology.
This will be achieved both through new research and by qualifying new MSc and PhD students to develop and test new technology for sustainable oil and gas production. The assignment crosses boundaries between academic disciplines and involves close interaction between research and industry.
