BP Egypt today (1 October) announced the start of drilling the Atoll-1 well offshore Egypt. The deepwater exploration well is the second exploration well in the North Demietta ƶijϻ concession after the Salamat-1 significant discovery announced by BP in 2013.
The well will be drilled using the sixth generation rig Maersk Discoverer at 923m water depth and reaching a total depth of around 7400m targeting Oligecene Channels. The well spudded on 12 September 2014 and the drilling is expected to last into next summer.

Atoll-1 is a high-pressure/high-temperature (HP/HT) well north of Damietta city. BP has 100% working interest in this well. Atoll – 1 well is named after a coral reef, sometimes called a coral atoll, which is a ring-shaped coral reef.
