Boskalis in US$91 million offshore wind farm gig

Iberdrola Renewables ƶijϻ Deutschland GmbH awarded Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) in partnership with Volker Stevin International (VolkerWessels) a US$91.8 million contract for the partial construction of the Wikinger ƶijϻ Wind Farm in the German section of the Baltic Sea.

Wikinger is 35km from the island of Rügen and near the maritime borders with Denmark, Sweden and Poland.  The site covers an area of approximately 35sq km, and will generate a total capacity of 350Mw.

The contract includes the transport and installation of 70 wind turbine foundations and six offshore substation piles.

Boskalis  will transport the wind turbine foundations that consist of a four-legged jacket and four piles, from four different locations in Europe to Sassnitz-Mukran in Germany using Boskalis barges and anchor handling tugs and Dockwise semisubmersible transport vessels.

After transportation, the piles will be driven into the seabed and then the jackets will be installed and connected to the piles. A Boskalis Giant barge will complete pile installation with a 1000-tonne crane. Boskalis 2200-tonne Taklift 4 sheerlegs will install the jackets.

The project is scheduled to begin 1Q 2016, with completion set for fall 2016.
