Det norske oljeselskap has received consent from the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority to use the Transocean Winner mobile drilling facility for production drilling and completion on the Volund field.
Transocean Winner is a semi-submersible facility of the GVA 4000 type, built at Gøtaverken Arendal in Gothenburg in 1983 and significantly upgraded in 2006. The facility is owned and operated by Transocean, registered in the Marshall Islands and classified by DNV GL.
Volund is an oil field in the central North Sea around 10km south of the Alvheim field. Water depth in the area is 120-130m. The field has been developed using a subsea facility tied back to the Alvheim FPSO production vessel, with three horizontal wells.
