Lukoil has completed the fifth production well for the Vladimir Filanovsky field in the Caspian Sea, and is constructing a sixth well to be used for water injection.

The new well has significantly boosted the field’s daily production, with more than 14,000 tons of oil produced on 13 June, or 5 million tons on an annualized basis, the company reported in a 14 June press release. The well – designed as a bilateral horizontal well – has a main bore of 1429m and a sidetrack 1612m long.
Production from the first phase of the Vladimir Filanovsky field development project started last year. Lukoil estimates the first phase to have 129 MMbbl and 30 Bcm of recoverable gas reserves. Annual oil production at the plateau is expected to be 6 million tons.
Lukoil said that construction of facilities for the field’s second phase of development are progressing according to plan. The topside of the offshore ice-resistant fixed platform (IRP-2), which set sail for the Caspian Sea in April, has been installed on the substructure. The next step will be the transportation of the living quarters platform's (LQP-2) topside from the shore to the field.
Discovered by Lukoil in 2005, the field lies in the northern Caspian Sea, 220km offshore the city of Astrakhan, in 7-11m of water. Vladimir Filanovsky is the second field commissioned by Lukoil in the Russian sector of the Caspian Sea, and is Russia’s largest oil discovery in 25 years. Field facilities are being constructed at shipyards in Russia.
