The Cidade de Itaguaí FPSO has anchored in the Iracema Norte area of Lula field, Petrobras announced on 3 July.
MODEC in consortium with Schahin was responsible for converting the VLCC Alga into the FPSO, as well as constructing and integrating the modules, and operating the unit under 20-year charter.
The FPSO measures 332m long, 31m high, and 58m wide, and weighs 82,000-tonne. The Cidade de Itaguaí is capable of processing 150,000 bo/d, 280 MMscf/d of gas. It is capable of storing of 1.6 MMbbl of total fluids, and injecting 264,000 b/d of water.
Petrobras says oil production at the Iracema Norte field, which is in exploration block BM-S-11 in the pre-salt layer of Santos basin, off Rio de Janeiro, is scheduled to begin in 3Q 2015.
Moored 240 km off the coast of Rio at a water depth of around 2240m, the Cidade de Itaguaí FPSO will be connect to eight production wells and nine injection wells. The natural gas will be exported to shore via a subsea gas pipeline.
Petrobras said that 65% of Cidade de Itaguaí was produced domestically, and 12 of its modules were built in Brazil: 10 at the EBE shipyard in Itaguaí, Rio de Janeiro; and two at the Schahin shipyard in São Sebastião, São Paulo. The modules were integrated at the BrasFELS shipyard in Angra dos Reis, Rio de Janeiro.
Petrobras operates the BM-S-11 area with a 65% interest. Its partners include BG E&P Brasil (25%) and Petrogal Brasil (10%).
