Norwegian technology development firm Badger Explorer ASA has been awarded a NOK13.2 million funding to develop high pressure high pressure technology in its drilling units.
Stavanger-based Badger is development rigless drilling technology. It is developing a tool which could be able to obtain subsurface data for oil and gas exploration, map hydrocarbon resources, and perform long-term surveillance.
The tool drills and buries underground, carrying a package of logging and monitoring sensors, without the need for a drilling rig.
Today, the Research Council of Norway (RCN) announced an award of funding to Badger through its PetroMaks-2 program.
The application was for the support of a development program using HPHT (high pressure high temperature) ultrasonic technology in the drilling and the compaction units of the future Badger tool.
The ultrasonic development program will start in Q1 2014, and last three years (2014-2016). The project cost is estimated at NOK32.4 million, and the grant is subject to RCN standard terms.
“This PetroMaks-2 support is another important contribution on our route to develop a reliable future commercial Badger tool. The Badger team and our development partners are enthusiastic, and the development work will commence immediately”, says BXPL’s CEO Steinar Bakke.
