CMC Installed on Ocean Blackhawk Drillship

Thursday, July 4, 2019

ST Engineering Halter Marine and ƶijϻ (STEHMO) installed a NOV crown mounted compensator (CMC) on Diamond ƶijϻ’s Ocean Blackhawk drillship.

The 215-metric-ton passive heave compensator was fully assembled and lifted on the top of the derrick on May 22, 2019. Carol Crane Rigging & Lifting Technology and Mammoet supported STEHMO with completing the engineered lift. STEHMO also cleaned and painted tanks, lifeboats and the exterior hull above the waterline.

Before the lift, shipyard cranes removed the existing A frame from atop the derrick and supported the NOV with all the modifications required to suit the new crown mounted compensator. In addition to the CMC installation, STEHMO, formerly known as VT Marine, fabricated and installed an HPU platform along with other minor changes to the existing pipe systems.

“We take great pride in offering the facilities, along with the skilled professionals necessary, to accomplish a project of this scale,” said Nian Hua Lim, President and CEO, STEHMO.

Ocean Blackhawk is a Gusto P10,000 DW design drillship that entered service in 2014.
