A lightweight, conductor-supported, minimum facility wellhead platform has been installed in 35 m water depth for the D28 oilfield Phase 1 project offshore Sarawak, Malaysia, for OceanMight Sdn Bhd on behalf of PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd, 2H ƶijϻ announced on Tuesday.
2H ƶijϻ, a riser and conductor specialist in subsea services group Acteon, said it was responsible for the concept, detailed design, transportation and installation of the platform.
The design, which features a lightweight substructure that is supported by the conductors and a lightweight topside that was installed after drilling and completion, enables both components to be installed using a jack-up drilling rig.
According to 2H ƶijϻ, the efficient installation method and partnership with Sarawak onshore fabrication company OceanMight meant that project execution and completion were achieved within seven months of the project award.
Shreenaath Natarajan, 2H ƶijϻ director and project manager, said, “This project demonstrates once again that 2H ƶijϻ’s unique, holistic concept-to-installation approach to minimum facility platforms offers significant value to operators. Collaborating with a local offshore facilities construction yard (licensed by PETRONAS) and using a jack-up drilling rig for installation provided significant cost savings in a challenging climate.”
This project marks the fourth successful conductor-supported platform installation using a jack-up rig in Malaysian waters by 2H ƶijϻ’s Kuala Lumpur office. Work on five further wellhead platforms is currently in progress, the company said.
